Guerrillas at the New York Art Book Fair
Guerrillas at the New York Art Book Fair
It was a great pleasure for Guerrilla Girls BroadBand to participate at this year's annual New York Art Book Fair. Taking place at the MOMA center at P.S. 1 in Long Island City, New York, the Art Book Fair brought together some of the most ingenious artists and activists on the current scene. As one of the participating Guerrilla Girls, I had a chance to engulf myself in the "ooohs" and "ahhs" escaping the mouths of the spectators at the remarkable exhibitions and items put on display. I got a kick out of the gasps and proclamations of utter awe and veneration thrown towards our table.
It seems that Guerrilla Girls has mapped its territory in the feminist activist front for the past generation- and is edging its way forward into the next. As people stopped by our table in the activists section, I noticed the keen interest people demonstrated for our posters, slogans, t-shirts, and our savvy stress-relieving bananas. A few individuals not only walked away with a couple of Guerrilla Girls patches or bananas, but also had the chance to learn about me Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain and my exemplary achievements for the Muslim feminist front in the early 20th century.
The only downfall of my weekend was when a little boy in a stroller started crying furiously at the site of my fellow Broads and I. Luckily, with a witty gesture and a sense of humor, we warmed up to him in no time.
