1. "Trigger Ban": 2007. Should Roe V. Wade be overturned, an almost complete ban on abortion would go into effect immediately. The ban stipulates that both the pregnant individual, as well as anyone aiding them in terminating the pregnancy, can be arrested and sent to prison for up to 10 years, unless it is to save the woman's life or if the pregnancy is the result of a rape that has been reported to the police. In requiring pregnant rape survivors to have filed a police report, Mississippi is, essentially, asking them to prove an incidence of rape, despite the fact that some rape survivors do not report incidences of sexual assault to law enforcement for a variety of reasons.
